INTI Project – Integration of third country nationals (EU), Integration through Participation
21 November was the day the results of the Integration Through Participation Project were presented in the Spanish head office of the European Commission.
José Luis González Vallyé, Director of the head office of the Delegation of the European Commission, welcomed everyone there, and then AIPC Pandora presented the project. Fidel Hernández, the Coordinator of AIPC Pandora’s Department of Citizenship and Integration, chaired a round table in which Amapola Blasco Marhuenda, Director of the Spanish Observatory of Racism and Xenophobia; Álvaro Jesús Zulueta, Director of ACULCO; Miguel Albarrán, Training Coordinator of CIDEAL; and Juan Carlos Rois, President of AESCO, all participated. They talked about MTAS’s Strategic Plan for Citizenship and Integration, about the situation as regards the associative movement of immigrants in Spain, and about the co-development projects that are being carried out by the immigrant associations as well as by other social bodies.
The second part of the event took place around three simultaneous round tables with the purpose of analysing the role of immigrant associations in the education, the business and the social service sectors:
- Education and interculturalism; chaired by Chantal Mayer
- Immigration and the labour market; chaired by Ana Eseverri
- Social participation and citizenship – access to service; chaired by Fidel Hernández
Representatives from the civil service, immigrant associations and federations, NGOs and social action bodies, Parents’ Association, trade unions, universities, colleges, secondary schools, businesses and experts on the topic participated. Several specific proposals were made that have been published within the organisation, available to anyone who is wishes to see them.
The definitive results of the project were published in December 2007, along with a video and CDRom with all the documentation
